Zubee Kibria is the founder of Access My Events: a consultancy business that aims to make events in the UK more accessible to disabled people. Zubee was born with cerebral palsy, which affects mobility, balance and coordination. As a result, she uses crutches and occasionally a wheelchair to get around.
Through attending events herself Zubee realised that not all businesses know how to cater for everyone and wanted to give disabled people the opportunity to enjoy events too, and so her business idea was born.
As a disabled person, Zubee faced a lot of negativity when she was growing up and was told that she couldn’t do certain things. This affected her confidence and she fees she had to do a lot to prove herself and not be seen as someone who is less capable just because of her disability.
Zubee has always aspired to start her own business, but never had the right support, struggling to secure a job in the events industry, despite applying for numerous positions, she decided the time was right to take the leap and found her own business.
Zubee says
“setting up my own business means I can create my own job, I’m independent, earn money and make a difference for other disabled people, all while doing something I really enjoy. It will be a great sense of achievement to have built something of my own and turned a long term goal into reality.”
She added “I hope my story will motivate and inspire others and show them that they can also start their own business. Commitment, hard work, passion, persistence and determination are the key to success.”
